Painshill Park

Sir William Cooper and his wife, later his widow, lived there until 1863, and installed Joseph Bramah's suspension bridge and water wheel, and planted an arboretum designed by John Claudius Loudon. In 1873, the English poet, literary and social critic, Matthew Arnold, rented Pains Hill Cottage from Mr. Charles J. Leaf and lived there until his death in 1888.[5]

The Homewood

The family demolished the original rambling Victorian house called "The Homewood", to make way for the house on stilts (pilotis) their son Patrick Gwynne would design and build to replace it, at the age of 24. The family sold off property in Wales to finance the project which cost £10,000 at the time, exceeding the original estimate.

University Boat Race Stones

The stones define the start and finish points of the Championship Course (4 miles and 374 yards (6,779 m) from Putney to Mortlake, as measured along the centre of the river) used in the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race and other rowing races, including the Head of the River Race. The stones are marked "U.B.R" for University Boat Race.

St. Mary's Church, Putney

The building itself has seen many changes; parts of the existing church have survived from medieval times, such as the 15th century tower and some of the nave arcading, and the early 16th century Bishop West Chapel, built by Bishop Nicholas West. Most of the building, however, dates from the substantial re-build of 1836. Some of the pillars and arches in the nave are medieval, but both the north and the south arcades were widened in the 1836 rebuilding.
