Places of interest in DA16Danson ParkDanson Park is the name of a park located between Welling and Bexleyheath in the London Borough of Bexley, and the name of the electoral ward that covers the park and the surrounding area.Danson HouseAfter Sir John died in January 1800 (being buried in St Mary's churchyard, Lewisham), his son demolished the imposing wings containing kitchens and stables, and built the present stable block (design attributed to George Dance the Younger). He sold the estate in 1807 to a retired army captain John Johnston. In 1829, it passed to Johnston's son Hugh. Hugh's daughter Sarah painted a number of watercolours of the interior in the 1860s with exceptional detail. These watercolours have been invaluable in restoring the interior. Hugh Johnston sold Danson to railway engineer Alfred Bean in 1863. Bean was the driving force behind the Bexleyheath Railway Company and chairman of Bexley Local Board, and envisaged transforming the 582 acre (2.4 km²) estate into a residential suburb. Outlying areas were gradually developed but the central area of the estate remained in Bean's family after his death in 1890 until it was acquired by Bexley Urban District Council for £16,000 in 1924 on the death of his widow. The park was opened to the public in 1925, while the house was used for civil defence purposes during World War Two.Wyncham StreamIn Chislehurst the stream flows north there are small ponds and woodlands such as Ash Grove on its coarse following some of Kemnal Road and passing through the sports grounds of Flamingo Park and Jack Nicklaus Golf Centre. After passing beneath the adjacent Sidcup By-Pass and Foots Cray Road A211 the river flows under the section of railway line between Sidcup and New Eltham stations and under several residential roads, including the B2214 or Halfway Street. Some of its coarse runs between the backs of houses' gardens, whilst in other places some roads have been built with a separate lane either side and the river flowing through the middle having small grassy banks. It also runs through some small green areas, such as some allotments, a small wood called Beverley Wood then into Holly Oak Wood Park where it joins the River Shuttle. Some of the small nearby residential roads have river type names, namely Wyncham Avenue taken directly from the river but also: Brooklands Road, Brookend Road and Shuttle Close after the River Shuttle.Tate ModernFrom the Millennium BridgeBankside PierThe Bankside Pier is a stop on the river bus service in London. It is located on the south bank of the river Thames, close to the Tate Modern museum.Information by Wikipedia.com
