Manor House tube station

During the planning of the Victoria Line a proposal to transfer Manor House station to the Victoria Line was put forward. New tunnels were also proposed for the Piccadilly Line between Finsbury Park and Turnpike Lane, considerably reducing the travelling time from Outer North London to Central London. The inconvenience caused during re-construction, as well as the cost, ensured that the idea was not pursued.

Harringay Stadium

There were a number of additions to the stadium in the years after construction including a number of smaller stands around the track and the construction of a restaurant in the main stand. One of the most renowned additions was the Julius totalisator. This electro-mechanical computer, installed in 1930 and extended and upgraded in 1948, saw continuous service until the stadium was closed in 1987.[3]

Harringay Arena

In June, there was a short season of classical music events including a two-week stay by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The event was part of their hyped European tour. They were the first American orchestra to visit the UK since 1929. Financed by British theatrical impressario Harold Fielding, the tour was a critical success, but high ticket prices kept the post-war audiences away.[16]

Sternberg Centre

It was founded to facilitate a number of Reform and Liberal Jewish institutions, attached to the Movement for Reform Judaism (formerly: Reform Synagogues of Great Britain) principally through education and cultural means. The centre was opened in 1981 by the Manor House Trust and is now named after Sigmund Sternberg. The founding organisations are: Leo Baeck college and the Akiva School, the first Reform Jewish day school in England (also opened in 1981); also the (Masorti) New North London Synagogue. The centre also hosted the Jewish Museum, Finchley. The Sternberg Centre grounds also house Akiva School and the offices of RSY Netzer, The Zionist Youth Movement for Reform Judaism

Leo Baeck College

In addition to the training of rabbis, Leo Baeck trains teachers, provides an educational consultancy, helps the development of community leaders, provides access to Jewish learning for all through interfaith work. Leo Baeck College is a degree awarding institution, specialising in Hebrew and other Jewish related subjects. The Scriptures in Dialogue project of the College is dedicated to the academic study and teaching of comparative Jewish, Christian and Islamic approaches to the interpretation of sacred scripture, from the earliest times through the medieval and classical period onwards.[2]
